Marquis Jelks, AKA, DJ XXL was born and raised in Houston, Texas. His love for music started at an early age listening to his mother’s, Ms. Shirley, record collection. He started DJing in 1996. He continued DJ exploration as a freshman at Colorado State and while there, formed a mentorship with DJ Sabotage. He returned to Houston. In the midst of taking a break, in 2010 he was inspired to get back active while listening to the beats of local artists DJ Screw and Michael 5000 Watts. He also enjoyed the musical genius of Atlanta’s DJ Drama.
DJ XXL has served his clients and community within club walls, weddings, private, and corporate events. He continues to study and develop in the art of DJing and MCing. He currently host virtual events, including parties, podcast, and DJ segments. He mentors aspiring DJs with an online platform, “DJs Helping DJs”. In his latest endeavor, as one of the Pressure DJs, he is currently touring with rising Southern Soul artist, Unkle Phunk and Guest, serving as both DJ and MC for performances.
